company profile

At the start of 2006, the BERDAL GROUP took over HK Plastics. HK Plastics BV has since been integrated into the BERDAL GROUP. A new management team has been appointed and new momentum is flowing through the company. HK Plastics is ready to face the future once more; to achieve growth through innovation.

the BERDAL GROUP

The BERDAL GROUP's takeover of HK Plastics was a logical expansion of BERDAL's activities. The company dates back to 1972, when it started out in the rubber and plastics industry. As a manufacturer of rubber hammers and buckets for the building industry, BERDAL expanded into an international company. BERDAL supplies high quality products to well-established DIY stores throughout Europe as well as in the United States. Continual innovation has enabled BERDAL to develop further; in terms of knowledge, expertise and size. In addition to two locations in the Netherlands, BERDAL also has a production site in Poland and another one in Slovenia.

Since 2003, BERDAL has also been manufacturing thinwalled packaging, an area where innovations follow one another in rapid succession. For years now, the company has been employing Stork injection moulding machines for the production of containers and lids. In 2005, BERDAL commissioned the very first Stork S 12000-8650 machine for the production of large IML containers, with capacities of up to 120 litres

The addition of HK Plastics to the BERDAL GROUP will expand BERDAL's activities even further. The company will now be able to supply plastic containers with capacities ranging from 0.3 to 120 litres, allowing it to offer a unique broad product range. BERDAL has approximately 60 injection moulding machines, which include 55 from Stork.

the strategy

BERDAL's strategy has proved to be a success: quality and reliability are the key considerations. Each BERDAL site is responsible for maintaining these values, which is why staff must work as a team, with both feet firmly on the ground. The relative independence and short lines of communication within the company provide an ideal stimulus and breeding ground for innovations. For years now, Stork has been a major contributor to this, with machines that are extremely reliable and that enable production of high quality products.

HK Plastics' fresh start

HK Plastics was founded in 1969 and specialises in the production of "Eurocontainers" - plastic buckets used for packaging. Over the years, the company has grown steadily and has developed into a leading manufacture

With the company's fresh start, a new management team has also been appointed. Site Manager, Bas van Kamperdijk, says that the values fundamental to the success of the BERDAL GROUP are also being communicated within HK Plastics: 'Better, Reliable BERDAL!' According to him, the staff play an important and decisive role in this.

Right after the company's new start, the machinery used by HK Plastics also had to be analysed and adapted to the new situation. Stork's service organisation was asked to evaluate all the machines and adapt them where necessary. The first phase of major maintenance by Stork's service organisation has already been completed and the injection moulding machines have also been classified according to product group, suitability and type. The basis for a well-run organisation has now been laid.

Growth through innovation

HK Plastics has since been integrated into the BERDAL GROUP. HK Plastics will continue to produce and innovate under its own name. Its strong and effective partnership with Stork will help the company to quickly pick up where it left off. Additionally, the BERDAL GROUP has ordered two new machines from Stork: the S 5500-8650 and the S 4400-5650, which will be fitted with the latest hybrid drive technology, such as variable pumps and electrical screw drive. Many of the company's customers have already experienced the new momentum at HK Plastics. The company is ready to face the future: to achieve growth through innovation!
